Read what some of our clients, families and staff have to say:

Clients and Family:

Dear DHS: The family of the late Doris would like to thank your team for their wonderful help and assistance not only to our sister but also to us. You provided angels to care for her and improve her quality of life and every time we've phoned, you have never let us down. Thank you so much, Doris' family.

Dear DHS: I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff in caring for our Dad, Richard at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. You and your agency helped our family out during a very difficult time. Dad remains at Lakeridge Health Oshawa awaiting a placement. Regrettably, Dad's health continues to decline. It is good to be aware of the services provided by your agency. It takes times as this to be appreciative of your services provided. If we are in a position to utilize your services we will do so without a doubt. Thank you all, Hazel.

Dear DHS: I wanted to bring it to your attention that Natalie (DHS Personal Support Worker) likely saved my father's life last Wednesday. She alerted us to how serious his condition was. Unfortunately his other care providers at the Nursing Home had not recognized his extreme state. When Natalie told us about his condition we insisted that he be transferred to hospital. In hospital it was apparent he was very dehydrated and had a number of other problems. We think very highly of her. All the best, Richard.

Dear Christina (DHS Nurse): If my memory serves me correctly you were the nurse who kindly came through DHS to do an overnight shift with my father at Oshawa General Hospital. You so kindly called me in the wee hours of the morning when Dad took a downward turn. By the time I go there he was conscious again and through your help was attempting to clear his chest. I wanted to share with you that during my last daytime visit, Dad spoke of "my night nurse's gentle touch. I liked her accent and wished I could have had the strength to talk with her." As you know Dad died the next day. In my thankfulness - I am so grateful that Dad had the benefit of your professional touch, which was given with tender loving care. Having only met you very briefly, I knew Dad was in kind, gentle and caring hands. Thank you for all you gave to him. Wishing you happiness and good health. Best Regards, Jean.

Dear Karen (DHS Nurse): Many a time I have thought about you and with deep gratefulness that Dad spent his last day in your caring and loving environment that came with your presence. My Dad died with both you and myself supporting and nurturing his final step along his journey. I watched your caring hands stroke his arm, I felt your nursing nurturance massage his spirit and I felt your unconditional support of me, as the eldest daughter. Speaking as the daughter, your presence was an inexpressable means of support, as I 'loved' my Dad into his final path. As I spoke to him I felt in my own world. Yet I know your presence was my foundation of strength to keep the flow of energy directed towards helping Dad. We were blessed that you were the one guided to be with us both. With a hug of thanks and best wishes for a healthy and happy new year, Sincerely, Jean.

From Staff:

Hello Sheri (DHS Health Services Manager): If I haven't already notified you of my decision and thanked you again for being a reference for me, I do so now. I did decide to accept a position up in Nunavut, packed up quickly, and here we are. The job is very interesting and challenging on a daily basis. The experience of living in a Northern Inuit Community is an adventure of a lifetime. The days are getting shorter quickly but we will still have at least four hours of daylight in December and January. We have Northern Lights dancing above on most clear cold nights. Thank you for the opportunity of working for your company (DHS). I really enjoyed the clients!! Take care of yourself and please say hello to your other DHS Staff for me. Bye for now. Jane.

DHS: I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank you for the Scholarship Award. I am greatly enjoying my experience as second year BScN Nursing Student at Durham College. I have also been fortunate to gain valuable skills from my work experience with DHS (Thank You!). When I graduate I hope to work in pediatric nursing (sorry guys!) and eventually go on to achieve my Masters. As I continue my studies, the scholarship will be very helpful in purchasing textbooks and contributing to tuition fees at York University next year. Thank you very much for your contribution to my future studies. Lisa
